We are Michael & Laura, a husband and wife photography team based in Richmond, Virginia (though we LOVE to travel!). We hope you enjoy browsing some of our most recent work, reading our tips and tricks for brides, and taking a little peek into our life.
We had been at Juja for a few months. We absolutely loved going every day to the school, teaching and helping out in any way we could. But, living in the middle of nowhere, spending everyday riding a bike through dirt and mud 15 minutes each way, and surrounded by kids fighting for your attention, and trying to teach them takes it out of you. So we were very excited when Laura’s family came over to visit for a week. Laura had also been in touch with her old school and a few friends stateside about a month before, and planned a supply donation for Happy Life Christian School, bringing needed and highly overpriced supplies you could buy in Kenya, but the school just didn’t have the funds to buy them. We had an AMAZING turnout of support for this, and Laura’s parents brought 4 50lb suitcases full of colored markers, crayons, chalk, reading and education books, sharpeners, erasers, personal whiteboards and markers for the kids, and a whole heck of a lot more.
While we were in Kenya we took tons of pictures of the amazing children we were working with. We entered one of these images into a huge photography contest and it made it to the final round!!! Not only that, but we were contacted by the amazing organization running the contest and they wanted to […]
As our followers know, we have been going through a HUGE rebranding process, from creating a new website and blog, dozens of things that go along with those like blogging consistently, and plenty of other projects geared to improving our client experience (some of these goodies that we can’t share with you yet, but will soon!). Rebranding is a huge endeavor, forget adding on a 20 minute bike ride each way to teach a class of 8 year olds that barely understand English every day from 10 to 5. That was my wonderful wife’s life over the last 3 months in Kenya. We would come back from Happy Life Christian School and be exhausted, but she would just sit down, take a breath, maybe grab a cold one, and pull up her computer and start typing away. She wrote an incredible amount of blog posts, designed and typed away on every aspect of planning a wedding all the way through the wedding day in a new project we will be sharing with you guys soon, and even found time to work on other non profit organizations like Glory Of Africa and Tunajenga at the same time. I would just sit there, amazed at everything she was doing.
