We left Poole in search of the historic Lands End, and what a perfect day to start off this trip! I was living up to my name as the tag-along, as everyone was waiting for me to pull off at the beginning (I made sure I wasn’t the last one to roll out again). We had an amazing hour or so ride until we stopped off at the water down in Lyme Regis and had a coffee while watching some poor woman’s pastry get snatched off the table by one of the hundreds of seagulls. We kept riding, before stopping off for a brie and jam baguette we shared (we were saving ourselves for dinner) at the Warren House Inn in Postbridge.
We hit one or two spots of light drizzle after filling up just outside of Truro, but pressed on until we hit our goal… Lands End! Turns out Sunday evening is the best time to stroll in there if you want to enjoy the place almost completely to yourselves. We backtracked a little to where our hostel was for the night, in Penzance, and then walked to a pub to get the blood back in our legs, in the nearby town of St. Just. We listened to several terrible jokes from our Leader, and sampled the local ale and food, before walking back to watch the sun fall, with a deliciouse nightcap. The weather was just about perfect for our first day… or should I say beautiful? Here is our Day 1 in a very brief nutshell…
Here is our route for tomorrow! A bit longer than yesterday, with mentions of a possible cream tea half way through!
