Choosing a Ceremony Time

I feel like ceremony times are sometime chosen at random.  Or maybe worked backwards by what time the meal should be served.  However we are here to tell you, work off of the SUNSET!  Regardless of if you are having an indoor or an outdoor ceremony, choosing your ceremony time to be about 2 hours before sunset can be a game changer for your images.  We schedule all our sessions to be 2 hours before sunset, because that’s when the magic happens.  The glowy beautiful light is found in these 2 hours, so by scheduling your ceremony to fit into that time, not only will your ceremony be shot in that magical light, but all your images we take after the ceremony will have that gorgeous light too.  In our ideal timeline, we would have all your key images (first look, bridal party, and family) taken before the ceremony, leaving this time to take some “just married” portraits of you and your new hubby!  We think these are the most important images from your day, and with this schedule, they will be shot in the best light, AND will give us the most freedom in choosing locations!  It’s a win-win-win-win.

Things to keep in mind:

  • If you getting married in the winter months, this means you are going to have a pretty early ceremony time… but it’s going to be so worth it!
  • Besides your gorgeous light, it’s going to be a little cooler as the sunsets.  And if you are getting married in the summer months, that is going to be a huge win for both you and your guests!
  • You party harder in the dark.. so when the reception starts as the sun is setting, people will be ready to dance the night away.
  • If all else fails, just try staying away from noon ceremonies if you are getting married outdoors.  This is when the light is the most harsh.
