Today we’re sharing Sarah and Austin’s Dogwood Dell, Byrd Park, Richmond engagement session. Byrd Park is actually a hume park in Richmond. It spans several different streets, has houses all along it, multiple lakes, running paths, tennis courts, all kinds of things. Is very large.

Then towards the end of the park, more near the James River, is the Carillon. The Carillon, The Virginia World War Memorial, has been under construction for like 10+ years. But it’s a really cool building and can be spotted from several areas in Richmond. Then just next to it is Dogwood Dell, an outdoor amphitheater that holds concerts and events.

Sarah picked going to Byrd Park for their engagement session because it was special to their relationship and they didn’t really feel partial to any other location. I took that and ran with it and chose to start at Dogwood Dell so that we could have some variety. Most parts of the park are just green, grass, fields, and trees. So I figured doing it at Dogwood Dell would provide us some variety.

So we pulled up and Michael asked why they chose dogwood Dell and I had to say they didn’t; I made that decision. Realizing that I haven’t even talked it through with Sarah and Austin. Luckily, they are the two most laid back people and we’re totally great with it. Turns out they actually chose this location because they used to live just off of Byrd Park. So they often took walks through the many paths. But we did ended up walking around one of the paths that they frequently took walks together on, so it all worked out.

That walking path is around two lakes and so we got some great variety through our session with the amphitheatre, the paths around the lake, and some trees. We got pretty much all of Byrd park.

It was incredibly hot for this session. There was actually an excessive heat warning, so I reached out to Sarah to see if that wanted to reschedule. But they knew they didn’t have very many available dates coming up to the wedding so they decided to go with it.

Again, they are the sweetest couple to spend an evening with. Austin has the best smile, they are both so easy going, and we absolutely can’t wait for their wedding this fall.
