Today we are sharing Katie and Christian’s Colonial Heritage Club Virginia Wedding day. They just got married in Williamsburg at the Colonial Heritage club.
Katie and Christian are such a wonderful pair and were such a pleasure to work with. We photographed their engagement session here and Richmond over a year ago and it was so much fun. They are such joyful and laid-back people that it makes it super easy to photograph them.
We have to give a little shout out to their planner, Cory. He was amazing and did such an amazing job keeping everything organized. Especially on wedding days were you’re not doing a first look – it makes such a big deal to have a planner.
He had those golf carts ready for us immediately and was so helpful at every turn.
Colonial heritage is a beautiful venue. They have a renovated reception space which is a ballroom. But my favorite part is the staircases that lead to the ceremony space outside. It’s so beautiful from every angle.
We started by photographing her details – which she had so many beautiful family oriented details. But then I took her girls out for a pajama picture, and I loved her pajamas. She had her new name written on the back, and fuzzy slippers. It was amazing.
Then after their ceremony we were able to take them for some portrait time. Which is pretty much always my favorite part of the day. Cory gave us a couple of suggestions of places that people usually shoot at Colonial Heritage.
One of which being some large magnolias on a really beautiful path. It was absolutely gorgeous, but because the sun was setting it was pretty dark in that area so he gave us a second option which was an open field. And as we pulled up to the field I don’t know why we haven’t been there before and why more photographers do not use this. It is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect place for their sunset portraits.
It had beautiful tall grass and open skies with the fall trees in the background.
Katie and Christian were so flexible with us and so up for anything we wanted to try.
Their reception was SO fun. They had a neon sign with photo background, some details of their dog on the bar, and amazing dance party with late night snacks.
Three things you should steal from Katie and Christian.
They had their dog, Lucy come to the engagement session. But she couldn’t attend the wedding. So they had her featured on the napkins and bar, which we’ve seen several times. But then they also had a little miniature Lucy on their wedding cake. It was SO cute and a fun way to feature your pet at the wedding.
It’s the best and easy bridesmaids gift you can give. You bridesmaids will LOVE you for providing them with a cute and comfortable change of shoes (read: SLIPPERS) for the reception.
Katie incorporated lots of family moments throughout the day. She had a first look with her dad, and brothers. Katie surprised her mom with doing a first dance with her during the reception. She had her mom’s wedding dress pinned into hers and a sleeve from her dress wrapped around her bouquet. But our favorite thing was that she took a piece from her dress to make pocket squares for her brothers and dad.
I think this would be so sweet for a groom to do especially if your mom doesn’t have any girls.
So many sweet moments from this perfect Colonial Heritage Club Virginia Wedding day.
Love you guys!
