We are sharing Stephanie and Peter’s rainy Wintergreen Resort wedding. 

Their original plan was to have their ceremony at overlook right next to the Wintergreen resort. We arrived there and their planner (Sara, from Faded Poppy) showed us around the most beautiful setting for a ceremony that we have seen. 

Literally while we were chatting with the planner like four cars stopped to take a photo. If you get married at the Wintergreen Resort you can actually reserve one of the overlooks for your ceremony. They will actually block off the entrance to the overlook so it is a private space for you and your guests.

So here’s what happened on this wedding day. We arrived and we set Peter up for the first look. We took a couple of photos of just him as we were waiting for Stephanie’s shuttle to arrive. As the shuttle bus pulled up the rain started. The clouds opened and it was just pouring seemingly out of nowhere.

Honestly when we first arrived at the overlook you could see every detail of all the mountains surrounding you. It was this perfect view of the Blue Ridge and all the fall foliage. And then as we got closer and closer to our start time the fog and the clouds were rolling in.

It was honestly the worst timing that we we’ve ever seen on the wedding day and then simultaneously the best attitudes of any bride and groom we’ve ever had on the wedding day.

It was really spectacular how this terrible rain did not phase this couple at all.  They had they best attitude and so much joy the entire day. 

Needless to say they had to enact Plan B which was doing their ceremony at their reception space. Wintergreen has several different reception options. This one was really cool because it was right at the ski lift, so it had beautiful overviews and large windows. 

This bridal party was also so amazing.  It was cold and windy and they did not complain one bit as we dragged them in and out of the rain for portraits.  This was the quickest we’ve ever shot as we tried to catch lulls in the rain. 

They had a very abbreviated wedding day which included an early ceremony and reception.  Afterwards, they had a bubble exit.  Then we pulled them for a couple more minutes because the rain slowed down to the point where we could take a couple of just them without the crazy rain.
