Today we are sharing Madeline and Wes’ Maymont Garden Richmond engagement session that we shot here in Richmond at Maymont then finish at Byrd Park.

The tricky thing about shooting at Maymont in the summer months is that it closes around 7pm. Sunset is not until about 8:30pm and we try to schedule our session within those two hours before sunset, so we end up having to do the second part of our session elsewhere. 

So for this session, to get the best light, we shot the first part of their session at Maymont, then the second part of their engagement session outside the gates. It’s a good compromise if you are wanting to shoot at Maymont but still want to make sure you get to photograph during golden. In fact we are doing that again this weekend. 

Maymont was looking particularly gorgeous this day. And for some reason the park was like empty. I actually asked Michael as we were walking in “do you think maybe it’s closed and they forgot to shut the gates?” 

We were a little bit nervous because Madeline and Wes traveled from Northern Virginia for the session. And they’re just getting married in a couple of days so we really needed to make this happen. And luckily the weather worked out perfectly.

We shared some samples of shots that we’ve done at Maymont with Madeline and Wes before they came down. We like to do that when we have couples traveling in to Richmond for their engagement session so they can get an idea of the location they are picking. And it worked out really well that we were able to really utilize all of the spots in Maymont that Madeleine really liked from those samples.

These two interact so adorably together. They made it incredibly easy to photograph them because they are so naturally comfortable and cute together. 

I can’t wait for their wedding and that is just a couple of weeks from when we shot their engagement session. But for now enjoy a few of our many favorites from their Maymont Garden Richmond engagement, congrats you guys!
