Pony Pasture Richmond Summer Engagement

Today we are sharing Liv and Jackson’s Pony Pasture Richmond summer engagement session that we we shot here in RVA at pony pasture on the James river. Liv & Jackson were actually sent us by a photography friend of ours who is expecting very close to their wedding date. They had actually already done an engagement session. But, we think the time we get with clients during their engagement session is so crucial to the process. Giving us time to get to know them, and them to get comfortable with us is so important. So, when it comes to the wedding day, they will be comfortable and familiar with us already, making portrait time much smoother!

Pony Pasture Richmond Engagement

Pony pasture is a very similar location to Belle Isle. But it was one of the most popular engagement session locations that we shoot at. It is wonderful because it is central to Richmond it has good variety with an open field and Tredegar right across the water. But it is also often very populated especially on a nice day.

It’s so hard to judge what the water level is going to be when shooting on the James. We love both of these locations for different reasons. Here are some pros and cons to using Belle Isle and pony pasture as an engagement session location in Richmond.

Belle Isle pros + cons

PRO central to Richmond

PRO good variety with an open field and historic Tredegar

CON Long foot bridge to access

CON Popular on pretty days

Pony Pasture pros + cons

PRO Easy to park and access

PRO Typically quieter than Belle Isle

CON Not as much variety

CON Locations will be more limited if the water level is high

We had a wonderful time with Liv and Jackson’s Pony Pasture Richmond summer engagement. We can’t wait for their wedding this fall at the Mill at Fine Creek.

  1. […] Liv and Jackson were actually referred to us from another photographer friend of ours. She is having a baby so she wasn’t able to shoot their wedding. When she was describing Liv and Jackson to us she just kept telling us how easy they were to photograph and how sweet they were with each other. And honestly that’s like an understatement. They were so fun to be around and such sweet people. *See their engagement session here […]
