Richmond Capitol Fall Engagement

Hey friends! We’re so excited to share Lauren and Josh’s Richmond Capitol Fall Engagement session. Capital Square Park is truly one of Richmond’s gems. This spot is a favorite of ours, and we loved getting to explore it with them (and their adorable dogs!).

Why Capital Square Park in Richmond?

We’ve always loved Capital Square Park, but for a while, it was off the table due to construction. Now that it’s reopened, we’re thrilled to have it back as an option. With its iconic white Capitol building, lush manicured lawns, and charming corners filled with fountains and fall colors, it’s a photographer’s dream.

Lauren and Josh had considered doing their session in D.C., but they wanted something unique. Richmond was the perfect meeting point for them, and Capital Square Park gave them the “monument-adjacent” feel they were looking for—classic and elegant without being overdone.

Fall at the Richmond Capitol building

Typically, we recommend choosing two locations for engagement sessions, but we knew Capital Square Park had more than enough variety to fill our time. Staying in one place meant we could relax, chat, and focus on capturing all the moments without rushing between spots. It’s a hidden perk of this park—there’s so much to work with, all in one square block!

Dog at your engagement session

Lauren and Josh brought their two pups along, which always adds a special touch. We know couples can be nervous about bringing their dogs (“What if they don’t behave?”), but trust us—dogs make everything better. Whether they’re sitting perfectly or just enjoying the love and attention, the photos always turn out amazing. And Lauren’s color-coordinated outfit with her dogs? Chef’s kiss.

Speaking of outfits, Lauren’s first look—a beautiful skirt in a stunning color—was one of our favorites. It matched the vibe of the park perfectly and looked incredible in the photos. Josh looked sharp too, of course, but Lauren’s style was a standout!

Why Engagement Sessions Matter

One of the best parts of engagement sessions is having the luxury of time. On a wedding day, everything is go-go-go, but engagement sessions allow us to relax, connect, and have fun. Lauren and Josh’s session was a great reminder of why we love this part of the process.

Counting Down to the Big Day

We can’t wait to celebrate with Lauren and Josh again soon—they’re getting married at one of our favorite venues, Poplar Springs Manor. Until then, enjoy a few of our favorites from this Richmond Capitol Fall Engagement Session, and stay tuned for their wedding photos. It’s going to be stunning!
