We had the absolute pleasure of capturing Krysten and Trey’s Dover Hall Summer Wedding in Richmond, Virginia. Dover Hall is like a European castle tucked away in Richmond’s west end. It’s an easy drive, yet once you arrive, it feels like you’ve been transported to the European countryside. The venue offers an incredible variety of locations, both inside and out, making it a photographer’s dream. Whether it’s the elegant library, the cozy green room, or the beautiful outdoor spaces, every corner of Dover Hall provides a new and exciting backdrop.

Krysten & Trey: A Joy to Work With

Krysten and Trey were an absolute delight to work with. Although they didn’t have an engagement session, we had the chance to connect with them before the big day, which made everything feel so natural. Krysten knew exactly what she wanted—she was particular about the things that mattered to her and laid-back about everything else. It’s always a joy to work with couples who trust their vendors and focus on enjoying their day.

Capturing Unique Moments at Dover Hall

One of the highlights of the day was capturing portraits inside Dover Hall’s beautiful interiors. Krysten had a vision for utilizing the venue’s indoor spaces, so we did some stunning shots in the library, green room, and blue room before heading outside. It was a refreshing change from the usual outdoor-only portraits and showcased the versatility of Dover Hall.

Even their first look was unique—we did it indoors, which is something we rarely do unless the weather demands it. But the rich ambiance of the room made it a perfect spot for such a special moment.

A Thoughtfully Planned Summer Day

Krysten and Trey also built in some wonderful alone time during their day, which we highly recommend to all couples. They spent a quiet half-hour in the library exchanging notes and watching their guests arrive. It was a beautiful, private moment that added a sense of calm and connection to their day.

After the ceremony, they treated their bridal party to a toast and some refreshments in the cellar, creating another moment of connection before diving back into the festivities. It’s little touches like these that make a wedding day not just memorable, but meaningful.

A Seamless Transition

One of the most clever details of the day was the transition from the glass hall, where dinner was held, back to the ballroom for the dance party. As guests made their way back, they were greeted by servers offering espresso martinis—such a fun and elegant way to keep the energy high as the evening continued!

The Perfect Wedding Guest Book

Speaking of unique touches, Krysten and Trey’s guest book was one of our favorites. Instead of a traditional book, they had a custom Monopoly board featuring their favorite places. Guests wrote messages on the board, creating a keepsake that’s both personal and fun. It’s the kind of guest book you’d actually want to display and use.
