Today we’re sharing Sydney and Carter’s Libby Hill Richmond Sunrise engagement session that we just did in Church Hill. Usually, at Libby Hill, we suggest pairing it with another location because the light can be pretty harsh towards sunset. But once you get that sunset glow, Libby Hill just absolutely shines for photos. However, Sydney and Carter wanted to do a sunrise session to beat the summer heat, and it ended up being so lovely.
You should just do Libby Hill at sunrise. It was really pretty; the temperature was great and it was quiet, which is a huge bonus that people don’t often think about. Typically, Libby Hill gets packed, especially in the fall on weekends. Choosing a sunrise session was a great way to avoid the crowds. The only people around were runners, who were in and out of our frame quickly. Otherwise, it was just really pretty. The light from the sunrise is a lot different than at sunset. The sun coming up from behind the buildings, as opposed to behind the city skyline, created a hazy effect that made the city look like a foggy background.
Sydney and Carter started in their casual outfits and then changed into their formal attire. They also brought their two dachshunds, which was a big hit. We didn’t know about the dogs beforehand; we just asked if they wanted to bring a pet, and they said yes. Coincidentally, the day before, Michael and I had a conversation about what dog we should get next, and he was pitching hard for a dachshund. Then, up walked two of the cutest miniature longhaired dachshunds you’ve ever seen.
Nobody can deny these dogs are cute. Sydney, with her blonde hair, matched one dog, and Carter, with his brown hair, matched the other. There’s a picture where the dogs are on their shoulders, and it just looks adorable. If you’re going to bring a dog, do it like they did. They had Sydney’s mom bring the dogs towards the end of the session, which we prefer because you’re already warmed up and more comfortable. Plus, for a sunrise session, her mom didn’t have to come at 6:00 AM, so it worked out really well.
We had so much fun with Sydney and Carter. They were lovely to hang out with, sharing jokes and enjoying the session. Afterward, we went to Fat Rabbit for breakfast. I think I only want to do sunrise sessions at Libby Hill now. Sunrise sessions in the Church Hill area are the best. Fat Rabbit, here I come.
