Today we are sharing Haven and John‘s Mill at Fine Creek Fall wedding day. They just got married just outside of Richmond at the Mill at Fine Creek in Powhatan.
One of our favorite parts of the Mill at Fine Creek (and I think that a lot of couples who choose to get married there’s favorite part) is the creek itself. You can walk through the trees and it opens up to a beautiful rocky area with a small creek passing through. It’s a beautiful place for portraits and just a gorgeous setting overall.
That being said to really get the most out of this beautiful aspect of this wedding venue you really need to be strategic and make sure that you have portrait time just before sunset. This specific area is really harsh earlier in the day when the light comes in and reflects off the rocks and the water. Then it is absolutely stunning as the sun is setting. So making sure that you give yourself time to take portraits in the best light at your favorite spot at your venue is a really smart thing to do. Something that I think more couples should take him to mind when they are laying out their timeline for their wedding day along with picking their venue.
And something that Haven and John definitely did for their wedding day. Haven and John used our exact suggested timeline and it made their wedding day flow so nicely.
They did a first look, which you know we love. But we didn’t use the water for their first look, because again, the sun is pretty harsh there in the middle of the day.
Instead we did their first look in the parking lot. Seriously. And it was beautiful. The light was so nice and the fall trees were really showing off there.
They also had their ceremony at the ruins. Definitely if you want to do your ceremony in this area at the Mill at Fine Creek, you want to plan for it to be earlier in the day, rather than super close to sunset, because it can get pretty dark there.
Their bridal party was one of my favorite parts of the day. Haven said that one of the first details that she picked out when she was starting wedding planning was that she wanted velvet details. And so all of her bridesmaids were in different colors of velvet. And it turned out so nicely. Then the groomsmen had matching ties to those bridesmaids. It looked absolutely gorgeous and the velvet details looked perfect for this fall day. It was a bold pop of color that looked amazing.
Their reception was also so much fun. Her dance with her dad was so sweet – he was just loosing it. And they had a late night snack of pizza and root beer which was AMAZING. I love that they did this. They also did a photo blitz, or table dash, whatever you call it, it’s a great way to really quickly get a photo with everyone at your wedding.
