Today we are sharing Gemma and Justin’s Barns of Kanak Virginia wedding day from the Barns of Kanak in Southside Richmond.
We’ve been there several times, we should know how to pronounce it. But the Barns of Kanak are truly beautiful. But even more so, the people that work there are so lovely and make it so great for vendors and couples who get married there.
It seemed like everything stayed on time for every moment throughout the wedding day. Gemma and Justin really took our timeline advice to heart. They were very easy going but also super practical – which made for such a great timeline.
They actually had a bit of a quirky timeline in that she got dressed before her bridesmaids were all the way ready. Gemma got dressed with her maid of honor while the rest of her bridesmaids continued to get ready. I actually thought it was a great practical choice.
When we did the first look, the maid of honor and the best man actually attended. I actually usually recommend that you don’t allow anyone to come to the first look. It is this one moment in a very chaotic day where you can actually be together as just the two of you.
But I actually really love that they invited the maid of honor and best man this time. You could tell how close they all were and it was sweet that they got to listen into their vows. But also they stood back for the first look so they did still have a little moment together.
I definitely think it’s something you should really think through. I wouldn’t just invite people to your first look – but this was a great example of how it really made since for someone else to be there for your first look.
Was just the perfect day. I turned Michael as it started drizzling on our way there and told him I just couldn’t rally for another rainy day. But the skies cleared and we had wonderful weather. It was perfectly overcast pretty much all day long. So, we were able to really utilize the entire property at the Barns of Kanak and take pictures in so many different areas – including the open fields that are on both sides of the barns.
I adore Gemma and Justin they were so much fun to celebrate with. They had the most wonderful bridal party – they were all so sweet and really were there to just love on Gemma and Justin which is so great to see.
I loved the girl’s pink dressed – a color that looks good on everyone. Guys had green suits which were the perfect mix of quirky while staying classic. I loved them probably my favorite suits to date. And then they paired it with a floral tie and leather suspenders. Just every detail was so perfect.
They had a friend officiate, which is always our favorite. They had a cookie table, which is ALWAYS our favorite.
And one of our favorite details ever – Justin’s ring was made by his dad. It was taken from hid grandfather’s toolbox that he used to keep his toys in when he was a kid.
It looked so incredible and such a cool detail with an even more amazing story.
They hired a beer keg van for the reception. It had a tv with a slide show of photos during the reception and some of them were the making of the ring. It was incredible to see.
