Today we are sharing Marika and Thomas’s Virginia Fine Arts Museum engagement session that we just did at the VMFA here in Richmond.  

And if you’re thinking you just saw an engagement session at the VMFA from us – you would be right. We were there earlier in the week for another session. I think that we didn’t use a similar spot for this entire session. There’s just so much variety at this location. We could shoot there forever and pick a different spots every time.

So they were actually having Fridays after five at the VMFA courtyard on this day. Which is actually such a cute event I wanna just go there to attend it. There was like a band outside, hundreds of people, drinks being served. We were serenaded by live music the whole time. But also it meant that there were a ton of people where we typically shoot. But again that’s why the VMFA so nice because we really didn’t have to fight with a crowd anywhere that we chose to go. Again, because of the variety here.

So we actually decided to start at the front of the building where there are some stairs and big doors. It feels like it’s the main entrance but we don’t really ever see people coming and going there. It’s lined by these beautiful purple bushes sort of look like lavender I think Marika called them butterfly bushes.

Marika actually rides horses, so we almost did their engagement session out where her horse lives. But ultimately chose to do the VMFA. Because, rather than just having trees and greenery we were able to have architecture and different elements.

And then can we talk about how much we love Thomas? He was so funny and so smiley the whole time. It’s so nice when we have a groom who seems genuinely happy. He was actually willing to be there and enjoy his time. 

They are getting married at Upper Shirley – another one of our favorite spots.  But for now, enjoy a few of our many favorites from this Virginia Fine Arts Museum engagement session.
