Hey friends today we are sharing Rachel and Hunter’s Charlottesville barn wedding day. They just got married in the Charlottesville area (Orange, VA) at Rounton Farm.
This was the first time that we have been to round and farm and it was a beautiful wedding venue. It had an absolutely gorgeous view and an amazing property. If you were going for a rustic mountain wedding this is your spot.
It’s a huge property with a separate area for the bride and groom to get ready in. Tons of flexibility for portraits and several different ceremony spots. Their reception took place in the barn which I think is actually partially a working barn. And it has a cool loft area for additional seating. The cocktail hour took place right outside under the twinkle lights which was probably my favorite spot – especially because the weather was so nice.
Rachel and Hunter are two of the most wonderful people. If you saw their engagement session that we did a while back you already know that Rachel is a dear friend of mine. We used to teach together and she was like my work wife. I lived in her classroom every morning and we got each other through a lot of the heartache that comes with teaching in an elementary, title I, public school.
It was so wonderful to be able to spend the day celebrating her she’s so deserves to be spoiled. And Hunter is just the most wonderful guy and loves on her so well. They are wonderful, wonderful people.
This year we are sharing three things that if you were planning your own wedding you should steal from this Charlottesville barn wedding.
Throw an additional details for your photographer. It’s so fun to have a couple of extra styling elements when we’re shooting those details in the morning. Rachel threw in the stamp they used for their wax seal on the envelopes as well as some vintage stamps and ribbon that matched her wedding colors. These extra elements make those detail pictures so much fun.
Get married outside under a large tree. Outdoor ceremony’s will always be your favorite but when you can be shaded under a gorgeous tree with a spectacular view it just makes for the most wonderful ceremony.
Champagne pop pictures will always be my favorite. I think they’re so fun and such a cute celebratory moment. Rachel had a bottle to pop with her bridesmaids in the morning and then we finish the night with Rachel and Hunter popping a bottle before we left in front of their reception space. Just our regular plug that you do not need a photographer to stay to the end of the evening to get a fun end of the night party picture. This is a great way to do it. You are going to get so many more pictures if you have your photographer come earlier in the day rather than having them stay later. Really all we’re getting is more of the same people dancing after about an hour of open dance time.
Just as we were leaving the DJ announced that Rachel’s grandpa wanted to be able to have a dance with her. He is wheelchair-bound and is not super mobile so several people were helping him be able to stand to dance with Rachel. But you could tell he wanted to be able to have that moment so badly. And it was so nice to be able to be there to photograph it. There was not a single dry eye in the place. And it was such a special moment for everyone.
It might be because we have two little boys so I just want to make sure that on their wedding day I get to do this. But the brides parents have so many special moments throughout the day that they get to be a part of – the groom’s dad is often in the getting ready room and gets that time to hang out – so being able to honor the mother of the groom by having a set time for a couple of pictures of the two of y’all is so sweet.
Enjoy some of our many favorites from this Charlottesville barn wedding.
