Hey friends. Today we are sharing Ally and KJ’s Oakdale barn spring engagement session.
Engagement session was at Oakdale in Ashland.
We sent Ally some information about planning her engagement session and she responded that she really wanted to find somewhere with a rustic feel.
We talked about maybe going to a family members farm. But it was pretty far out. So we were just looking at some other options and I stumbled across Oakdale. It is just north of Richmond in Ashland.
And I pretty much immediately fell in love with it. I stocked pretty much all of Oakdale’s weddings that they have ever had. It is a really beautiful venue. And it’s pretty close to us which is so wonderful. So I reached out to the owners and they were nice enough to allow us to come shoot their engagement session there!
We arrive to Oakdale and it was even better in person.
It is a beautiful space. They have an amazing white barn on the property. But there are also rolling hills, a cool fence line, some cows, a lake, some tall grass, wooded area. It was just so fun to explore. It was a great day.
The barn sits kind of on top of this hill. I was a little afraid it would be in full sun the whole time. But the great thing about Oakdale is there is a wonderful tree line that allowed us to have some beautiful light.
The only little hiccup or downfall from their engagement session is that it has been lovely weatherwise in Virginia. But that day was just freezing.
It had rained slightly that morning and then the sun came out so it seems like it might be perfect. But the wind brought it down like 20°.
The wind killed us. And Ally was wearing a short dress.
Mad props to girls in the winter wearing dresses and men in the summer wearing full suits. Either way someone is getting screwed weatherwise. But Ally and KJ looked great the entire time.
Ally had her hair and make up done and looked completely flawless.
We sent out a style guide to a couples before engagement sessions to help them prep for the day. And you could just tell that she had read it and came looking amazing – perfect.
Ally, whoever did your hair mad props to them.
Ally and KJ are such a sweet couple. It’s one of our favorite parts of engagement sessions that we get to know our couples a little bit better and be able to spend time with them. I knew that I loved Ally from the start because she said that she was going to have a soft soft serve ice cream truck at her wedding. And I was just like – yep, that’s my person.
They are getting married in the late fall at the Barns of Kanak. I love that both of these venues are similar in that they are a rustic barn but still completely different in their look.
Here are just a few of our favorites from their Oakdale barn spring engagement session. Congrats you guys!
