Today we are going to share with you an engagement session that we just shot with Rebecca and Dan at some historic downtown Richmond engagement session locations.
It was this past weekend which is crazy to think about because it feels like so much has been happening recently and it’s already October. It’s just like all the things.
We have been very busy. Fall is always a super popular time to do engagement pictures, family pictures, mini sessions, and weddings. So we are just cramming it in friends.
But it was really nice to spend an evening with Rebecca and Dan.
We actually met Rebecca and Dan pre-coronavirus. We sat at a restaurant without a mask and had a conversation and drank a beer like normal people used to.
So we have known them for a while now. It was great to be able to see them again.
We love engagement sessions to be able to get to know our couples a little bit better and spend some time with them.
It was so good after so long of not being able to be face-to-face to do their engagement session.
So Rebecca really wanted to do her engagement session at 23rd and Main because that is where they had their first date. Which I think is so sweet. It made their session really unique and personal to them.
23rd and Main is a really awesome restaurant just north of the city. They have a really great wall mural outside of the restaurant. It’s painted on the side of the brick building and looks really cool so we started there. I mean, I was across the street and yelling at them through the traffic, but it was good. So we started there before we went inside where they actually had their first date.
Also, Dan is hysterical. One of the things we tell our couples at the beginning of the session is don’t look at Michael’s camera, look at me. I am the first shooter on engagement sessions. And so Dan kept calling Michael number two or ‘the second’. It was hysterical.
Then we were actually able to go inside the restaurant. It was right before their dinner hour so they actually let us inside. They were able to go in the exact spot at the first date.
And then 23rd and Main also has a little patio outside the back where we took a few extra ones. Rebecca and Dan must have felt like they were on show the whole time. They were people outside eat and basically just watching them, but they crushed it.
Then we headed to Main Street station. Rebecca wanted a couple iconic Richmond spots and Main Street station is definitely one of those. So we contacted the venue coordinator there and she let us inside. We had never shot inside Main Street Station before so that was fun. And they blocked off some time for us to be able to do that.
There’s some really cool architecture, and then we also went into the back where it’s like the event space of the old station train station. Where all the glass is. The beautiful part.
But again, people were sitting there waiting for their train and they were on show again. Dan was such a trooper. He killed it.
And then to continue on with iconic Richmond spots we went to the T-Pott bridge (T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge).
It was overcast day so there weren’t a lot of people on the bridge and we were able to shoot in any direction we wanted. It was a huge bonus. Overcast day for the win.
That was one of our favorite spots. I love being able to shoot indoors, I think it’s really cool to try out new locations, but we’re outdoor photographers. We love some natural light. We are outdoorsy people.
Anyways enjoy a few favorites from our session. We love you, Rebecca and Dan. Congrats you guys.
