Some good friends of ours told us about how Virginia weather works. They said that there was a fake fall that Virginia experiences in August, before the second summer hits. The temperature drops for a short while, before it shoots back up to the 90s. And the fake fall spell hit right at the perfect time to photograph Karli & Jon’s John Marshall Richmond Wedding! We were first introduced to Karli & Jon at The Veil Brewing, where Jon was meeting Karli’s family in person for the first time!
It was here that they told us that they weren’t really picture people (but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from their engagement and wedding galleries!) Over the past year, we’ve gotten to know these two; we’ve taken their engagement portraits, shared drinks and nachos, and have noticed how such a perfect fit they are for each other! They are both hilarious, and can make each other laugh at any time!
Karli & Jon celebrated their wedding day at The John Marshall Richmond Wedding; their ceremony in the beautiful front room, and their reception in the main ballroom. Karli even stayed in one of the many suites they have available! When we first arrived, we met up with our sweet friend, and amazing wedding planner Jenny from Greenery & Grace, took us down to see Karli. The John Marshall is located in the heart of downtown Richmond, and only a few blocks away from the beautiful Capitol Building, where we shot some of our favorite portraits! Most of the rest of the day, we were inside the gorgeous John Marshall, except for a few sunset portraits in the streets of Richmond.
After their ceremony (which they wrote their own vows for, and were adorable!), we jumped straight into family portraits during cocktail hour, and probably took the biggest formal family shot we’ve taken at a wedding. But everyone was really excited to get to the reception, because it is tradition on Karli’s side of the family from Pennsylvania, to bake a variety of cookies for family weddings.
Now, you are probably thinking, oh, yea, cookies, that sounds fun! Soooo, like a couple dozen? Nope! Just wait until you see how many cookies they made! It had to have been at least a thousand! I think they had to combine four rectangular tables long to fit it all in one area!
These two had such a fun reception! A live band, glow sticks, sugar (there were A LOT of cookies) and signature cocktails named after their sweet pup! All of that, and including Karli & Jon’s incredibly sweet families, and all their friends, and this evening was just about perfect. Congratulations Karli & Jon! We hope you are enjoying your honeymoon! Please keep posting about your time in Thailand! We are loving following what you guys are doing! Love you both xo
