Michael and I drove through the night from our Northern, VA wedding to Harrisonburg.  There were just little drizzles of rain on Saturday and we didn’t drive through too much rain in the night, so we were feeling hopeful for Sunday.  But as we were loading the car at our hotel on Sunday morning it started to rain.  Not too hard, but it was raining.  Then as we got to the venue, On Sunny Slope Farm, it had stopped but the wind was picking up and the clouds were rolling in.  Then as we started shooting details it began raining again.. and it continued on like that for the whole day.

Merrill had the tough decision to make of keeping the ceremony at the outdoor space, or moving it into the tent.  It is the most impossible decision to make.  It seems like any time a bride chooses to move indoors, it ends up being perfect.. and if a bride chooses to stay outside, it rains.  There is no winning.  Though looking back, I think Merrill and Alex definitely won.. because even though right after they said their vows it started to pour and everyone go soaked.. I’m not sure these two even noticed.  They were just so happy.  All day.  Nothing was going to get in the way of their joy.

Enjoy some of our favorites from Merrill & Alex’s beautiful day.. (many of which were taken in the rain, because Merrill & Alex are amazing.. and let us have them get soaked in their wedding dress and suit.. without complaining.. love you guys so much!)

 

And then it started pouring rain, and all the umbrellas came out..

but I’m not sure Merrill or Alex even noticed..

So apparently, Alex has been dreaming of his wedding day since he was a kid.  And when he was a kid he decided they were going to have the best food at his wedding.. like chocolate milk, hot dogs, and ice-cream.. and he would provide peas in case anyone wanted to be healthy.. haha..

His sweet momma remembered it all and made sure she provided him his dream wedding meal.

This adorable woman insisted we be on the other side of the camera.. we couldn’t say no..
