So today we are talking about another Maymont park rainy engagement session we had recently with Alanna & Niall.
Yes, we headed back to Maymont here in Richmond Virginia. Alanna & Niall are from Northern Virginia but they travel down here and we are so grateful. Except like so many of our sessions recently rain was in the forecast.
Michael had his eye is very glued to his radar. He is obsessed with his weather app and was working at the radar over and over again. And we felt very confident that we checked with Alanna & Niall.. In case it might rain. But they were like “you know what, it’s totally cool. We are just excited to get out of the house.” As so many people are during quarantine.
They decided to come down even though we thought it might rain. It was looking like it might be OK. Then literally when they got out of the car and started walking towards us, it started raining.
So we broke out the umbrellas. It wasn’t so bad. We found the one spot in Maymont with an overhang, right at the mansion. And we started there.
Alanna & Niall were actually previously scheduled for the weekend that everything started shutting down for quarantine. So we have been trying to figure out when to reschedule this. And they just wanted to get out of the house and be with some other people.
Put on real clothes.
So we started at the mansion. It is a beautiful mansion but it can be pretty dark. The benefit was that even though it was raining the sun was out. So we had a great light, but couldn’t be out the whole time.
It was a weird weather day.
So Michael looking at the radar said we have seven minutes no rain. So we said OK let’s go run to the Rose Garden. We got there but we hadn’t run fast enough. It started raining again so we went back to the mansion.
We decided to take a few under the overhang there which actually turned out to be one of my favorite spots. We hadn’t ever shop there at Maymont before. So it was a cool different location.
I can be hard going back to the same place and trying to make it look a little different. So that was fun to try a new spot.
And then it stopped raining and it was great for like a good chunk.
We went to the Rose garden again and it was the first time in my 30 years of living in Richmond that I have been to the Rose garden and no one else was there. At the Italian garden.
The great thing about the rain is it did scare everyone else off.. Except Alanna & Niall and us.
And I’m so glad because we got this great epic shot of them in the Rose garden without anyone else.
We spent a little bit of time there before walking out and it started raining again.
But the good news is the Rose Garden also has a dome area which is sheltered from the rain.
As we headed out from Alanna & Niall’s Maymont park rainy engagement session, they also want to be able to take a couple with their Tech gear on. They are both Hokies. Hokie alumni, graduates of Virginia Tech.
And so we got there T-shirt on and then it just poured.. the skies opened.
That’s the last 15 minutes or so of their session in the rain.
But they were such troopers about it and we got some really great shots.
And again the sun was out while it was raining, so it was beautiful, it was amazing.
For being in the rain it was exactly what you’d want.
And the perfect couple to be able to handle it, they were so amazing.
So enjoy a few of my favorites from this rainy Maymont session.
Congrats Alanna & Niall!
